Booker t Washington was born in 185 on a tobacco farm in Franklin County, he died Nov 14 1915. His mother was a house slave, and his father was a white man who may have been his master. His name was James Burroughs. His mom later married Washington Fergunson during war, in Malden West Virginia a education he taught himself and spent his evenings studying with a teacher from a local black schools. He attended school in Hampton Institute, established by the Virginia legislature for the education of blacks. He graduated in 1875 and returned to West Virginia briefly as a schoolteacher. He then became head administrator from Hampton Institute General Armstrong, invited him to create a new school for blacks in Tuskegee Mississippi. This is were he started to become known.
