the bonus march: Herbert Hoover’s view

In this site they are talking about how the average price of stocks rose more than 40 percent. Hoover hoped to help maintain the boom by expanding social and economic policies. They also mention The rising markets led financial institutions to grant millions of dollars in easy credit loans, fueling the fever. The web also tells when all hell brake lose, On October 26, 1929, the bubble finally burst completely when 16 million shares were traded, and the indexes dropped some 43 points.

I think this site will be a really good source because it’s very descriptive about what was going on at that time and how the people felt. Also it tells you what was going on with the stock markets and ho businesses were crashing.

thesis statement

Even though people blamed Herbert Hoover for contributing to the great depression, he should be looked at differently for the way he handled it during that time.

a few quotes from herbert hoover

About the time we think we can make ends meet, somebody moves the ends.
Herbert Hoover
America

- a great social and economic experiment, noble in motive and far-reaching in purpose.
Herbert Hoover

- More quotations on: [America]
Engineering is a great profession. There is the satisfaction of watching a figment of the imagination emerge through the aid of science to a plan on paper. Then it moves to realisation in stone or metal or energy. Then it brings homes to men or women. Then it elevates the standard of living and adds to the comforts of life. This is the engineer's high privilege.
Herbert Hoover

- More quotations on: [Engineering]
My country owes me nothing. It gave me, as it gives every boy and girl, a chance. It gave me schooling, independence of action, opportunity for service and honor. In no other land could a boy from a country village, without inheritance or influential friends, look forward with unbounded hope.
Herbert Hoover
Older men declare war, but it is the youth that must fight and die.
Herbert Hoover
Words without actions are the assassins of idealism.
Herbert Hoover

- More quotations on: [Actions]
The great liability of the engineer compared to men of other professions is that his works are out in the open where all can see them. His acts, step by step, are in hard substance. He cannot bury his mistakes in the grave like the doctors. He cannot argue them into thin air or blame the judge like the lawyers. He cannot, like the architects, cover his failures with trees and vines. He cannot, like the politicians, screen his sort-comings by blaming his opponents and hope the people will forget. The engineer simply cannot deny he did it. If his works do not work, he is damned.

On this website it is a lot of fact about Herbert Hoover during his lifetime, in fact this whole website are all facts about Herbert Hoover. It also has a picture of him Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, and Harvey Firestone at Edison's 82nd birthday. Ft. Myers, Florida, February 11, 1929. This site also tells u when he started his presidency and when he ended 1929 – 1933 and that he was the 31st president of the U.S. I learned a lot from this website that many people may not know like he approved the "Star-Spangled Banner" as our national anthem and we always sing the banner at sports games but never thought twice about when or who approved it.

topic selection

My topic is about Herbert Hoover and his life during presidency in the great depression. For NHD I will be talking about how Hoover handled one off the biggest problems in American history. The reason I pick this was I thought it would be interesting to learn more about his life during that time because many people fight weather he was the fault for the depression back in the 1920’s. also because myself and many other people believe that we may be going through another great depression with wall street cashing and all the money going over to the troops in Iraq.
